RUNNING (courir, faire du jogging )

The universal sport: it’s a treat in Paris because there’s a charming view almost everywhere, whether you glance at the Eiffel Tower while circling the Champs de Mars, or keep up with a barge as you follow the Seine. All the parks are used by joggers, with the Luxembourg Gardens perhaps the most crowded and the Buttes Chaumont offering the steepest slopes. Jogging at dawn finds the purest air, but that can also be acquired at the Bois de Boulogne or the Bois de Vincennes, on the outskirts of town. There are also a number of municipal sports centers with running tracks (see the city's Guide du Sport or this online version).

The place to start is at the RunThePlanet website. From Antarctica to Zimbabwe, Run The Planet offers descriptions of where to run and walk in the cities of the whole world, told by the locals, and to use while you are away from home. With marathon information, specialized running pages and links, this is reputedly the largest and friendliest worldwide running community on the Internet.

For women, Cassandra Davis has a great page of advice and articles plus a blog, on the Time-to-Run site, www.time-to-run.com/women. Also, the ASPTT is a French sports federation that organises runs from April to November. See www.asptt.com/manifestations-sportives/
